People lovingly refer to Corpus Christi as the “Sparkling City by the Sea”, even though it’s a bay. And the latest glimmer in this “Sparkling City”? The Bay Jewel in Downtown Corpus Christi.

Located in the old Taylor Brothers Jewelry building, this dedicated event space is quickly becoming one of Corpus’ go-to places to host events of all kinds. Having just celebrated their one-year anniversary in April, this once dilapidated building is now home to some of the most unique gatherings in the city.

With 14,000 square feet of event space, some of which used to be home to the buildings caved in roof and a stray tree or two (what?!), The Bay Jewel is happy to host whatever sort of event you have in mind.

The Diamond Ballroom’s fabulous design, original brick pillars, new windows and chandeliers with a built-in bar area (with wood from the original building) and seating for up to 250 people. The spectacular staircase leads up to the Pearl Mezzanine with window seating perfect for cocktail hour, mixers or a ceremony site. With two additional event rooms, The Ruby Room downstairs and Emerald Room upstairs they may be the perfect fit for smaller event and budget. Three private guest suites upstairs offer a space to get ready, a band’s green room or whatever else you might need.

Some may wonder, “Who would build an event space right across the street from La Stanza Event Center?” Valid question. However, according to Laura Sandoval, the General Manager of The Bay Jewel, friendly competition forces everyone downtown to be at their best. “You can’t have a thriving business if the building next door isn’t doing well,” she says when explaining the choice to open in their current location. Both might be event venues, but they have completely different vibes which means they can both succeed, together.

Nothing makes us happier than knowing how close-knit our downtown community is. It is something that Sandoval says she’s excited to be a part of in the coming months and (hopefully) years. In fact, the day after they opened at the end of March 2018, they participated in the April ArtWalk. Something, she says, they try to do every month they aren’t booked with something else. “ArtWalk is an easy way for people to come in and experience the venue without having to book a private appointment,” said Laura.

So many people who have been in Downtown Corpus Christ in the last five or so years are used to that corner of Mesquite and Starr being empty, boarded up or known as the old building with the “soldiers on it”. The Bay Jewel is happy to surprise all its patrons when they come inside and see how large and beautiful the space is now.

They are excited to use this new space in unique ways. Last month, they hosted their very first fashion show, with great success. This summer, they hope to re-launch their “Summer Concert Series” and showcase bands from all around the Coastal Bend. Honestly, whatever you can imagine in the space if they can do it, they will, according to Laura.

Future plans for downtown’s newest staple include an upstairs lounge area fit with a cigar humidor, wine cave and plans for a rooftop patio! Until then, know that whether you just want to use the event space or you’re in need of a space as well as people to help you plan your event, They Bay Jewel has got you covered.
