Summer In The City – Along the Seawall - Marina Arts District in Corpus Christi, TX
Jul 17, 2019
By: Alexandra Scott
Our seawall is a staple of Downtown Corpus Christi. This iconic structure not only serves as part of our flood protection system but as a place to catch the sites and experiences of downtown. You can exercise, play, learn, eat or so much more while catching some of the best views of Downtown Corpus Christi and the marina. The seawall is accessible to all and provides some of the most photo-worthy backdrops in downtown. From the sands of McGee Beach to the sounds of laughter at North Bayfront Park, take a look at everything to do this summer “Along the Seawall”.
Voyage Solar System Scale Model
Voyage is installed along the walking path adjacent to the seawall that overlooks Corpus Christi Bay. The path runs parallel to N. Shoreline Boulevard. The Sun and inner Solar System are found at the Peoples St. T-Head. It is a 1 in 10 billion scale model with 13 stations along the seawall.
Easily one of the most iconic things about Downtown Corpus Christi, if not the city as a whole. This tribute to the ‘Queen of Tejano Music’ serves as a remembrance of the lives and communities she has touched over the years. It is rare that you will ever see this Mirador del la Flor empty of people coming to admire and pay their respects to the acclaimed singer.
We all know Summer in Corpus Christi can get a little on the hot side, so grab a sun umbrella, canopy, cabana or just a chair from the rental services at McGee beach. You’ll know them by their gorgeous blue color and friendly staff!
Recently, the Islander Women’s Beach Volleyball team set up an array of volleyball nets on McGee beach. When the team isn’t practicing or participating in games, they are free for public use.
Water’s Edge Park
From a playground and basketball court to the friendly dog park, Water’s Edge Park has everything for the whole family. Grab your gang, furry friends included, and come on over to Downtown Corpus Christi’s favorite park!
North Bayfront Park
Just follow the sounds of laughter and joy to see one of Downtown Corpus Christi’s favorite parks. This picturesque space includes an incredible water feature where you and your family can play, as well as Zagster bikes for rent and plenty of space for picnics and other family fun!
Fun Time Rentals
Since 1994, Fun Time Rentals have provided Corpus Christi a wonderful experience. You can rent jet skis, paddle boats, surreys (those cute little red 4-wheel cycles), kayaks and canoes. They also have dolphin sightseeing trips, speed boat rides around the bay.
Scooters & Bikes
Sometimes, you just don’t want to deal with driving from place to place. We’ve got you covered in Downtown Corpus Christi. With scooters from Lime and Blue Duck and bikes from Zagster Bike Share, all you need is a cell phone and a carefree attitude to experience downtown from this unique perspective.
Wednesday Night Regatta
While the Wednesday Night Regatta runs year-round, weather permitting, it’s the most fun in the Summer months. Grab a snow cone or catch some grub from a local food truck and watch as some of Corpus Christi’s best sailors take to the bay for their weekly race.
Downtown Farmers’ Market
Every Wednesday night, at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, find the best local vendors and artisans the Coastal Bend has to offer. The Downtown Farmers’ Market is second to none and we absolutely love that they’ve made their home along the seawall.
Whatever you decide to do first, there is plenty of sunshine left in the season left to catch all of the fantastic things to do ‘Along the Seawall’!
