Introducing The Downtown Management District’s
2018 Holiday Event Series!
Wondering who is behind the new lights on Chaparral Street and La Retama Park? The Corpus Christi Downtown Management District is proud to announce, the 2018 Holiday Event Series and the return of Peppermint Lane.
Downtown Management District has hosted a Decorate Downtown event for two decades! This year, we are making this even bigger and better by expanding the scope and reach of the event. On November 10th, we are asking volunteers to come help us hang our downtown’s iconic garlands and bows. With an afterparty at House of Rock, this year’s festivities are sure to fantastic!
In the 1960’s, Chaparral Street became Peppermint Lane, where our community shopped and celebrated the holiday season. In 2018, Downtown Corpus Christi’s Peppermint Lane Presented by CITGO will include a fresh take with candy canes and tree lights. On November 24th, the Grand Opening and Holiday Celebration will include a kid’s carnival, crafts and choir concerts during the day, and a 6 PM Ribbon Cutting. The decorations will remain through January 6th.
Battle of the Bulbs
Adding to the festivities, Battle of the Bulbs Presented by CITGO will bring back the days when downtown was your holiday shopping destination and businesses competed for your attention with their holiday decorations. The competition begins November 24th and the trophies will be awarded December 7th. Categories include Best use of Lights, Best Window, Best Big Building and Best Overall. Decorations will remain until January 6th.
ArtWalk & Holiday Market
Rounding out the DMD’s Event Series is a holiday version of our monthly ArtWalk event on Friday, December 7th. The ArtWalk Holiday Market Presented by CITGO will be held on Peppermint Lane with all our favorite local vendors and merchants bringing the holiday cheer! This event is sure to tie a bow on our series highlighting the history and tradition of the holiday season in Corpus Christi.
